3 Things God Promises About Our Shame

Last week, I blogged about how to keep others from shaming us, but there’s no magic cure for the shame we keep locked in our hearts for years.

If you’re like me, you’ve asked, “How do we give our shame to God?”

Here are 3 Promises we can cling to while we talk to Him about it and allow Him to take the shame away:

God doesn’t mean for us to live under shame. When we believe we’re worthless and beyond redemption, we’re listening to a lie. There’s an enemy who wants to destroy our souls, but Christ came so that we might have abundant life (John 10:10).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Coming out from under the shame depends on knowing our status as God’s redeemed. Under the blood of Christ, God sees us as He created us to be, not broken or disgraced. Instead of shame, we’ll inherit a double portion and rejoice in it (Isaiah 61:7) .

We could never do anything to make Him love us any more or any less. His esteem for us has never (or never will) depended on our performance. We do good works to glorify Him because He’s created us to be His masterpieces, not so that we can become masterpieces (Ephesians 2:10).

    Great post, Lyneta. I love that we can do nothing to make God love us more or less! It seems like we raise the bar for ourselves higher than we do for others. When I find myself dealing with shame, I realize I’ve got to spend more 1-on-1 time with our Comforter and Counselor. He gets it. He sees me with love and compassion!

      Thanks, Lynn! We don’t often use Comforter and Counselor as the names for God, so thank you for highlighting that aspect of His nature. As we spend more time with Him, we’re able to live more fully in the truth of who He is and who we are as His children.
