Weary? It’s good to know…
I don’t know about you, but this week has plumb worn me out. Here are some things that weighed heavy on me:
- Another school shooting and derelict police officers
- A good friend’s scary diagnosis
- My daughter’s alarming visit to the ER and week-long caregiving
My gratitude list is a LOT longer, but there’s something I have to admit to myself:
I need a rest, and that’s okay. We all do from time to time.
You too, friend? Grab a cup of something hot and yummy and curl up with me. Let’s soak in the words of Paul to the Colossians (chapter 2:6-10a).
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete.
We can glean so much from this passage. Here are a few things I meditated on as I asked God for instruction and His peace.
- It’s good to know where our strength comes from and who establishes our faith.
- It’s good to know that God teaches us how to depend on Him.
- It’s good to know that empty philosophies and deception are not new to mankind (hello again, trite gun-control/mental illness debates).
- It’s good to know we can trust the sovereignty of Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
- It’s good to know our completion comes from being firmly planted in the hope of Jesus Christ.
My prayer for you and me is this:
May the God of peace grant us the rest we need to carry out the good things He planned for us long ago and help us find the strength we need as we remain rooted in Him. Like the spring at the end of a long, frigid winter, may we emerge more alive than ever.
